Lost Mountain Adventure Golf (Woodridge, IL)

June 4, 2011, late afternoon

After our round at Enchanted Castle, we were jonesing for some outdoor mini golf, and the rain had blown through a while ago, so we took a chance on Lost Mountain.  The course was a little damp, but nothing too bad aside from the ball being a little wet whenever I picked it up.  The course isn't dissimilar to Congo River, and I tore up the front nine much like my last trip to Congo River - after a bogey 3 at the first, I made eight straight scores of 2 (four of them birdies) to hit the turn at three-under 19.  With 2s on #10 and #11, I started to think about breaking the day's low score of 39 (as posted on the board at the front desk) - and immediately I gave up any hope of it at #12, the first of two consecutive uphill holes.  On the first try I hit it too short; on the second, the ball reached the top but slid back down on the right side, the only one not protected by a ridge at the edge of the green.  On the third I grounded the club and was too short again.  Finally I made it to the top on the fourth shot and settled for rolling in a triple-bogey 5.  I subsequently could only par the par-3 13th and 14th, and actually went over par for the round with a bogey at #15.  Fortunately, I was able to birdie both #16 and #18 to break par for the round with a one-under 43, four shots behind the day's low.  Alma was ten shots back of me on both nines, finishing with a 63.
