Water Golf on City Island (Harrisburg, PA)

September 7, 2010, afternoon

Mom and I were in Harrisburg to add another to my list of state capitol buildings, but the chance to play miniature golf on an island in the middle of the Susquehanna River was too tempting to pass up, and in fact the course was quite attractive with its water features and excellent river views. I started pretty well with a birdie at the second and a nice par save at the third, then bogeyed two of the next three holes and doubled #7, which had a plateau feature that I couldn't get the ball to stick on. #8 compounded the ignominy when I lipped a par save, and I hit the turn at four over. I made some ground back on the back nine, though, carding birdie at #11 thanks to a perfect drive, hitting another perfect drive at the par-four 17th to set up an eagle, and parring every other hole to come in at three-under, leaving me at just one-over 50 for the day. Mom also shot better on the back nine, going out in +9 32 but coming back in in +4 30 to finish with a 62.
