WNUR Sports Softball Team Fights Rain, Pounds Daily

Evanston, May 31: The WNUR Sports softball team fought through the elements and rode Adam Mendelson's complete game performance to a 12-1 victory over the Daily Northwestern Sports squad.
Mendelson took game MVP honors, allowing just one unearned runs in seven innings pitched.  No runs crossed the plate in his final six innings, and his only strikeout came as the last out of the game.  He also only walked one batter.
The Daily jumped on the board early when a fielding error led to a run in the top of the first.  But WNUR came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back.  Mendelson's solid pitching was backed up by a solid defense that kept the Daily off the board through the final six, including a relay from the outfield that cut off a run at the plate.  The defensive play of the game came in the top of the seventh with one away, when center fielder Anuj Vedak made a diving stab to rob the Daily batter of what would likely have been extra bases.  When initially breaking for the ball, Vedak fell down on the slippery grass, but quickly recovered and plucked the ball out of the air just inches away from the ground.  The play cut off any momentum the Daily could have received, and Mendelson struck out the next batter to end the game.
The offensive highlight of the game for WNUR came in the fourth inning, when Chad Young smashed a grand slam to put WNUR on top 10-1, ending any hopes the Daily may have had of coming back.
A slippery field wreaked havoc on play throughout the game, as the rain started off light and got heavier as play continued.  Several players slipped coming out of the batter's box, making plays at first much easier for the fielding team, and running the basepaths was not any easier as players slipped while rounding bases.   The Daily seemed to be more affected in the field than WNUR, as the radio squad's defense seemed to only get better throughout the game, while the Daily missed a lot of easy pop-ups.
WNUR's resounding win came despite the Daily's enlistment of a ringer from the Northwestern softball team.  The radio squad was presented with the Jay Tant Memorial Trophy after the game, a football signed by the NU graduate, now a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

Holy cow!  A new update, a new movie review, and the movie just came out today so I'm not really really late with it like I so often am.  So here's the review for Pearl Harbor.

In other news, classes ended today - or at least most of them, though I, being in the School of Speech, have a class Wednesday.

Okay, so I haven't updated the page in a while.  But do you really want to read stuff like "Well, today I did nothing again"?  Probably not.  Anyway, last night was NU Night at Wrigley Field, which was pretty good.  Okay, so it was cold and there was a 40-minute rain delay, but the Cubs won 5-3.  And the winning run was balked in, which is pretty damn funny.
There are only two more days of real classes left, which is a pretty good deal.  Of course, there's still reading and finals week, but oh well.

Well, after five days of what could probably be described as hell, my Internet is back.  So here's a review of another thing that finally happened, my viewing of Memento.

There's more! View last month's updates.
