Big update day, obviously. Here, somewhat belatedly, is the last BigFlax.com Top 20 College Football Poll of the regular season. Coming next week: the BigFlax.com College Bowl Challenge, where six (right now) of us put up our picks for the 25 bowls that take place from December 20, 2000 to January 3, 2001.

Well, after a completely ridiculous
trip, I'm finally home. Let's recap: my plane was supposed to leave at 5:14 CST.
I got to the airport around 3:30 and found it was delayed because it had yet to
come in from Cleveland. It finally came in around seven and we were on the runway at
about 7:30. The pilot starts revving up the engine, and then comes on and says he
hears something he doesn't like. We go back to the gate and the mechanics start to
check it out.
Three hours later, the flight is cancelled. We get a
free stay in the Ramada, but I had to get up at 4:15 because the flight was at 6:45.
But finally I got on the plane and got back here around quarter to ten EST.
So finally I'm back in Jersey.
In totally unrelated news, Week 13 NFL Predictions are up.

The latest BigFlax.com Top 20 College Football Poll is up. Once again, it's somewhat unrealistic, but that's what I get for asking my suitemates to make the poll. The final poll will be released next week - after that, look for bowl predictions from the same people who make up the voters in the poll (hopefully I can convince a few others to get down on that as well).

Yesterday was the NAQT Sectionals at
the University of Wisconsin in Madison. This was the first tournament I'd competed
in as a college student, but it was just NAQT format, so I had four years of experience
anyway in playing that style, unlike the other freshmen on the team.
We took four teams, two in Division I and two in Division II (I'm not
clear on the exact difference between the divisions, but I do know that once you've played
in nationals you can't play in Div II anymore). I was on Northwestern D, which was
just three freshmen. So I'd say that our 9-3 record in the prelims was pretty
impressive. That put us in second and in the top playoff bracket, where we couldn't
finish any lower than fourth. Which is what we did, by losing all three of our
playoff games, which was kind of embarrassing. But all in all I'd say we had a good
day. Scores below.
Round One: Wisconsin A 175, Northwestern D 125
Round Two: Northwestern
D 135, Wisconsin B 105
Round Three: Northwestern
D 225, Chicago D 100
Round Four: Northwestern
D 105, Carleton B 20
Round Five: Northwestern
D 225, Iowa State C 15
Round Six: Northwestern
D 110, Minnesota B 95
Round Seven: Northwestern
D 95, Northwestern C 50
Round Eight: Northwestern
D 160, St. Olaf 95
Round Nine: Iowa C 225, Northwestern
D 115
Round Ten: BYE
Round Eleven: Chicago C 185, Northwestern
D 130
Round Twelve: Northwestern
D 260, Iowa State B 115
Round Thirteen: Northwestern
D 105, Washington U B 100
Placement Round One: #3 Northwestern C
240, #2 Northwestern D 100
Placement Round Two: #4 Wisconsin A 150, #2 Northwestern D 100
Placement Round Three: #1 Chicago C 220, #2 Northwestern D 80

The AP does it with writers. ESPN/USA Today does it with coaches. But for the BigFlax.com Top 20 College Football Poll, I use Northwestern students. For the inaugural Top 20 Poll for the week of Monday, November 6, click here.

Well, after a rather agonizing
experience, my internet is back up. This allows me to tell of the things that I
would have from Sunday.
The IM football team's season is over after we lost 20-14 to Beta
Theta Pi. It was a close game, but we really got screwed by the officials. We
got nailed for a lot of penalties for illegal contact (try incidental), though there were
other times where more contact was made and it wasn't called, not that Beta didn't bitch
to the referees constantly in an attempt to get it called (guess no one took physics; it's
called momentum).
Right at the end of the game, we had just thrown an INT but Beta was
pinned on the one-inch line. The QB was pressured in the end zone and threw the ball
away. The refs called him for intentional grounding, giving us a safety and the ball
back, but then a few seconds later they reversed the call, leaving us with much less time
when we finally did get the ball back, and a couple of Hail Marys turned up nothing.
Then, as if to reinforce the asshole manner in which they'd been behaving all game,
Beta picked John off in the end zone as time expired - meaning the game was over
- and the guy attempted to run it back. Fortunately John took his flag, but if I
were him I think I would have lowered my shoulder. What are they going to do, call
15 yards?
It's really windy today.

Welcome to the latest update of "Movies to See." Last time, I went solely on what seemed like interesting plots or casts. This time I'm operating directly off trailers I've seen at www.movie-list.com. This makes the list much smaller, but also much more accurate. Click on the name to go to the Movie List trailer page.
In alphabetical order:
Antitrust (December 25): I
know I said before it looked like it would suck. And it still looks pretty formulaic
- but at the same time it also looks kind of cool. I'm definitely going to see it.
Cast Away (December 22):
The trailer doesn't give much information, but it's Hanks and Zemeckis, which is tough to
ruin. In any event I'm sure it'll at least be decent.
Finding Forrester
(December 6): One of the best trailers I've ever seen. If the movie is half as good,
it'll be phenomenal. An original premise as far as I can remember, and Connery looks
as if he's going to turn in a great performance.
The Legend of Bagger
Vance (Friday): Come on. Will Smith and Matt Damon in a Robert Redford film
- about golf? How could this possibly be bad?
O Brother, Where Art
Thou? (December 22): Not only is it the Coen Brothers' latest, but it's a
reworking of the Odyssey set in the 1920s. Can you pass up the chance to see what
that's like?
Unbreakable (November
22): Okay, the trailer is a bit campy, and Sam Jackson looks really stupid with that hair,
but you have to at least see this one just because of who it is.
What Women Want
(December 15): Looks pretty funny... has the potential to trip and fall all over itself,
though.
And that's it for now. I don't feel like getting into the movies to avoid because it's late.
