On Saturday, January 27, 2007, the culmination of Drew's plan for a cola taste test to rival the Great Root Beer Taste Test was realized.  After a week spent gathering various colas, we tried out a field that ended up including an astonishing 17 competing colas (plus a few surprises thrown in).  Drew and I were once again the tasters; Alma once again was gracious enough to administer the test, take pictures, and be the best.  Without further ado, here's how the test went.

Phase One: The Obtaining of the Cola

A check of the root beer test page reveals a complaint from me about the difficulty of obtaining suitable entrants, but Drew and I tripped over new root beer brands everywhere we went in pursuit of cola.  Our travels took us, in a single Wednesday night, to White Hen Pantry, World Market, Whole Foods, Jewel, Dominick's, Potbelly, Trader Joe's, and CVS, and later trips were made to Mitsuwa, Aldi, Target, Dollar Tree, Treasure Island, and this Indian market on Devon.  I daresay we put a lot more work into this than we did into the root beer test.  Which is a shame, because root beer > cola.

Phase Two: Deciding on Ratings Criteria

This had been hard for the root beer but it was even harder here.  What on earth do you rate cola on?  We settled on aroma, fizz, smoothness (aka drinkability), flavor, and then an overall ranking.  These were still really hard to do sometimes.
